My personal experiences of life with diabetes

Hello, I'm Joe Muscat - middle aged businessman, leading the usual frantic lifestyle of 12 hour working days, erratic mealtimes and no time for exercise.

Until one day in October 1995 when I was told by my doctor that I was suffering from the onset of diabetes. That changed my life.

Soon I was learning how to inject myself with insulin, regulate mealtimes, test for sugar levels - and think hard about fitness, exercise and my weight. This was not a way of life that I wanted to accept - so I set about proving the medical profession wrong when they said that I would be on insulin for the rest of my life.

Now, I have lost 25 kilograms, exercise one hour a day, follow simple diet rules - and don't need insulin. Since June 2003, and hopefully forever.

And you could easily do the same!
